FEES & INSURANCE

I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation for psychotherapy, psychological evaluations, and forensic cases. This consultation is my preferred way to begin any therapy or evaluation, and is required before I will accept a forensic case.

$200 - 1 hour session

$300 - 1.5 hour session (usually for couples and families who find that additional time is useful)

If you are interested in seeing me as an out-of-network provider, I am happy to provide billing statements which you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

Generally, PPO insurance plans are more likely to reimburse out-of-network providers than HMO plans. If you do decide to pursue insurance reimbursement, I am happy to support you in that process, but you are ultimately responsible for paying for the cost of therapy.

Psychological and Neuropsycholgical Evaluations

I charge a flat rate for all evaluations. This feels like the most ethical fee structure as it ensures that there will be no surprises, you can budget accordingly, and I can make decisions about test measures using best-practice standards (rather than being limited by financial constraints). This flat rate includes all testing and document review that I deem necessary to fully answer the referral question(s), a full report, and 60-minutes of consultation after the report, which may be broken down into multiple consultation sessions. If we get part way through an evaluation and I realized more testing is needed to answer the referral question, the fee will not increase.

I understand that evaluations are expensive. The reason for this is that a thorough evaluations generally takes approximately 20-30 hours (or more) of a psychologists' time to complete. While expensive and time-consuming, evaluations can actually be less expensive and save time in the long run: having an accurate, nuanced understanding of your psychological and neuropsychological functioning can meaningfully direct treatment, ultimately reducing and streamlining the treatment process. In some situations, an evaluation can save years of frustration in treatment, as well as the psychological and emotional impact of struggling and not getting better. However, evaluations are also not always necessary. This is why, if you're interested in an evaluation, I will want to speak with and help figure out if an evaluation is indicated for your needs and situation.

FEES FOR EVALAUTIONS

The cost for evaluations ranges from $2000-$3000, and is determined at the outset of the evaluation. There are some types of evaluations which I commonly conduct and have set fees for; these are listed below. If you have questions about an evaluation to address concerns not listed below, please contact me.

$2000

  • Intellectual Disability

  • Cognitive and Memory Testing (e.g., establishing a baseline if dementia is suspected or tracking level of functioning when there is evidence of neurocognitive decline; provides information about functioning only)

$2500 - assessment of up to 2 of the following:

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD)

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • Learning Disabilities

  • Psychosis, including early detection of psychosis

  • Psychological Impact of Trauma

  • Personality Disorders

$3000

  • Comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological evaluations, including evaluations related to fully evaluating dementia, impacts of a TBI, learning difficulty from numerous (3+) etiologies, or where numerous (3+) co-morbid disorders are suspected

I do not currently accept insurance for evaluations

Unfortunately, insurance companies place many limitations around what they will and will not cover for evaluations. While I would love to be able to charge insurance, I have reached the conclusion that I cannot both bill insurance and do high quality evaluations that adhere to best-practice standards.

Forensic Evaluations & Testimony

I am currently accepting a limited number of forensic cases related to parental capacity, conservatorship, and disability. Prior to accepting a forensic case, I require that you contact me to discuss if the case is within my scope of practice.

I work on a retainer structure for forensic cases, and ask for half of the estimated cost at the time of scheduling.

The fee for evaluations in a forensic context generally starts at $3,000.

I bill expert testimony at the rate of $300/hour, and most other services (e.g., review of documents, consultation, preparation, travel, wait time in court) at the rate of $200/hour.

Please contact me to discuss working together and my fees for forensic cases.

Note: I do not accept insurance for forensic cases. It is also notable that insurance often will not cover evaluations for forensic situations as these may not be deemed "medically necessary."
